The Centennial Cross was constructed in 1937 to commemorate the Centennial of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. The blue cross overlooks Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Key West, IA - just South of Dubuque. It has been a symbol of Christian faith for over 8 decades!
Over the years trees had grown tall enough to block the lights on the 75' Cross making it hard to see. In addition, the Cross's neon bulbs were fragile and broke easily. We have added a new concrete footing and erected a new steel cross that is 137' tall with LED lighting on 2 sides.
In the future we are working with Mt. Olivet Cemetery to install an information board and a reflection spot for people to be able to visit and reflect and pray.
We need to raise funds to pay for this project and future maintenance of the Cross. The total budget is $350,000. Please help us spread the word!
We are going to be installing a Donor Recognition / Information Board about the Centennial Cross in the Mt. Olivet cemetery. It will feature the names of donors that give over $10,000 and also feature basic information about the Cross. We also will provide a link to this website where all donors that give over $100 will be acknowledged.
All donations of $100 or more will be listed on this website in the future.
